Construction of the second floor is complete

On Monday July 25th the new second floor at Casa Connor was handed over to us by the architect Juan Pablo Mendoza Nuñez of PVR Contractor. We are pleased to report that the project was completed on time and within budget, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter at Pasitos de Luz, as we will be able to welcome residential volunteers for the first time. This is fantastic news, since more volunteers means more help for the kids.

We have spent the past few months furnishing the bedrooms with beds and bedding, as well as taking delivery of furniture for the shared dining and social spaces. All of the bedrooms have fantastic views over the fields that surround Casa Connor, with the hotels and spires of Puerto Vallarta visible in the distance. The large shared space for dining and socializing looks over the gardens and therapy pool, while there are spacious bathrooms and a wide airy corridor along which the bedrooms are located.

We believe that volunteers will be very comfortable and will enjoy a memorable and enriching experience helping out with the kids and making a difference to the community here at Pasitos de Luz. We have already hosted a parents’ day on the second floor and received very positive feedback from the moms and dads of the Pasitos kids.

In November, Brian Collins and other board members of the Pasitos de Luz – Casa Connor Board will inspect and approve the new facilities. This will be followed by a period of careful planning, to make sure that volunteers are comfortable, safe and provided for, that we know exactly who will be arriving as a volunteer and how they will work with the children, among other important factors. We will also hire a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator. In the coming months, once we are ready to welcome volunteers, we will publish this on our website and in our newsletter.
