We offer special education, recreational activities, plus art, music and dance workshops. Pasitos de Luz is, for many of our children, a ‘home away from home’ and an integral part of that home environment is our special education center. One of our special education teachers Martha embodies Pasitos de Luz philosophies. We asked Maestra Martha why she has stayed at Pasitos de Luz for such a long time. Her answer is simple:
“I just love working with the kids. I learn from them every day; I never stop learning from them“. Martha recognizes the rewards that come from teaching our special needs children. “The best reward” she says “is to see the children’s smiles. With a single hug, that is enough”.
We currently have four separate classrooms for our special education classes:
Early Education Classes
This space is designed for early learning classes, benefiting our youngest children, and helping us to build levels of trust and understanding. We look to develop the child’s potential, giving the child the opportunity to experience and learn from real life situations, focusing on childhood development: cognitive, socio-affective and motor.
Autonomous Classes
We focus on developing levels of autonomy and a greater sense of self-control and independence in the child. These classes aim to increase confidence and their sense of security.
Ability Classes
In these classes, we work on levels of improvement in everyday learning. These classes focus on skills development and increasing proficiency by capitalizing on the child’s strengths.
Reading, Writing and Maths Classes
In this classroom, we focus on developing essential reading, writing and maths skills as part of a strategic learning program. The aim is to give our children the skills and confidence to be able to communicate and live successfully in the outside world. Some of our kids have gone on to find employment after leaving Pasitos de Luz.
Special Autism Classes
We work one-on-one with children on the autism spectrum, helping them to develop the academic, social, and life skills necessary for independence. We also give them freedom to express themselves through art, music and dance, enabling them to discover and embrace the world around them.
