Pasitos de Luz has a special group of children who call Casa Connor their “home away from home”.
We have been helping some of the children since our inception, but even more are recent additions to our extended family. The disabilities and disadvantages they face are sometimes overwhelming for their families. Many of their parents are single mothers who need to work just to provide their families with a home and meet their basic needs.
All of our children come from low-income families and several live in extreme poverty. If you put their disability into the mix, they have a lot of challenges to face day-in and day-out.
Some Of The Families We Support Live In Very Precarious Conditions
We do not have the mandate or capacity to offer residence to our children, but do plan to begin offering short-term respite to help ease the burden on their families. Even with short-term respite, they will eventually return to their humble homes. Here are some of the challenges they face in their home environments:
Dangerous neighourhoods, sometimes run by drug cartels or gangs
Lack of basic hygiene, including flush toilets and clean water for drinking, cooking and bathing
Lack of electricity
Lack of accessibility, such as ramps for wheelchairs (as well as wheelchairs themselves), elevators in apartments blocks, adapted bathrooms and other things we often take for granted.
You can help in many ways, including: becoming a volunteer, providing items from our list of necessities or contributing to our bazaar
Pasitos de Luz is a civil association in Banderas Bay. It is a registered non- profit organization founded by mothers of disabled children to meet their therapeutic, psychological, nutritional, educational and basic needs.
