4 years old · A story of hope, love, and perseverance

We lovingly call her Marthita. She arrived at Pasitos de Luz when she was just 8 months old, and since then she has shown us that hope, love, and perseverance can transform lives. Each of her achievements is a victory that, a few years ago, seemed impossible.
Marthita was born with congenital hydrocephalus, agenesis of the corpus callosum, and hydranencephaly, neurological conditions that affect how the brain develops and functions. They can impact movement, muscle control, balance, communication, and learning, which is why they require comprehensive, ongoing therapeutic support.
When she was born, her family received a very difficult medical prognosis. But at Pasitos de Luz, we believe every child deserves the chance to develop their abilities to the fullest and write their own story.

When she arrived, Marthita couldn’t move around on her own or easily interact with her surroundings. From that moment, she began a comprehensive rehabilitation program, always tailored to her needs:
Physical Therapy Hydrotherapy Special Education Nutrition Multisensory Stimulation
With patience, perseverance, and close teamwork between specialists and her family, Marthita began to respond positively. Little by little, she gained muscle strength, improved her head and trunk control, and started taking more interest in play, learning, and exploring her surroundings.
Her mom, who first came looking for support for her daughter, is now also part of Pasitos de Luz, helping other children and families.
Every one of Marthita’s achievements reflects her incredible strength, the commitment of a multidisciplinary team, and her family’s unconditional love.
Marthita’s story is still being written. Every day she discovers new ways to interact with the world, learn, and grow more independent. We’re proud to be by her side and excited for everything she has yet to achieve.
Your support makes her therapy and daily care possible.
