Meet Vanely

3 years old · Curious, determined, and ready to explore

Vanely at Pasitos de Luz

Vanely loves discovering the world around her. She arrived at Pasitos de Luz when she was just 11 months old, and since then, every new achievement has been a chance to learn, explore, and grow more independent.

Vanely has Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome, a genetic condition caused by an extra chromosome. It can affect physical, cognitive, and language development, so some skills take more time and support to develop.

At Pasitos de Luz, we take a comprehensive approach to strengthen her motor development, encourage her independence, and help her reach her full potential, always at her own pace.

When She Arrived

  • She wasn’t crawling yet
  • She couldn’t walk
  • She needed help to eat

Today

  • She walks and explores freely
  • She feeds herself
  • She makes more decisions on her own
  • She plays and takes an active part in activities

Step by Step

Vanely exploring

From the moment she arrived, Vanely began an early intervention program focused on strengthening her motor skills, encouraging her independence, and supporting every stage of her development.

Little by little, the progress came. First, she found new ways to move around and reach whatever sparked her curiosity. Then she learned to crawl, gained better control of her body, and started doing more and more on her own, including feeding herself.

One of her biggest challenges was learning to walk. To motivate her, her therapists turned every session into an experience full of play, music, and visual stimulation, small incentives that sparked her interest and encouraged her to take one more step each day.

After months of practice, effort, and perseverance, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived: Vanely took her first steps.

At first she walked unsteadily, but for her, this achievement meant much more than a new skill. It gave her the freedom to explore, get closer to whatever caught her attention, and discover the world more independently. From then on, she also began making more decisions for herself and needing less and less help in her daily activities.

Today, at 3 years old, Vanely explores, plays, and takes an active part in life at Pasitos de Luz. Every step she takes reflects her determination, her family’s commitment, and the work of a team that has been by her side for every achievement.

For many people, walking is an everyday thing. For Vanely, it meant discovering that she could explore, choose her own path, and take part in the world around her with an independence that once seemed out of reach.
