At Pasitos de Luz, every child who arrives represents a story of strength, resilience, and determination. We work every day to provide specialized care for children with disabilities and help them reach their full potential. Today, we share Marthita’s story, whose progress has been truly inspiring.
Three years ago, an 8-month-old baby girl joined our Pasitos de Luz family. Martha Tamara Domínguez Zavaleta, lovingly known as Marthita, was born with neurological conditions that severely affected her development. Doctors gave her mother a devastating prognosis: her daughter would only live for one year.
From the very beginning, her parents did everything possible to give her a better quality of life.
Her father worked double shifts to cover therapy and medical expenses, while her mother devoted every minute to her care. Despite their efforts, her progress was very limited.
When Marthita arrived at Pasitos de Luz, she had very limited mobility, could not control her head, and showed little interaction with her surroundings. She also had a high sensitivity to certain stimuli, which caused anxiety and stress.
Given this situation, Pasitos de Luz began a comprehensive treatment focused on stimulating her neuromuscular system. With the support of a multidisciplinary team, Marthita began a transformation process filled with challenges, consistency, and hope.
“The main objective was to stimulate her neuromuscular system, allowing her to develop motor responses and improve her muscle tone. Over time, she achieved significant progress in mobility and independence.”— Anuar Tavera Romero, Physiotherapist
Thanks to the constant effort of both the team and her family, Marthita developed new abilities and adapted better to her environment.
Today, Marthita can hold her head up firmly, has strengthened her core, can sit for extended periods, and interact with her surroundings. She is also able to feed herself and enjoys every moment of her day. Smiles are now part of her life, leaving behind moments of distress.
Her mother, who has been her greatest support, also found a purpose at Pasitos de Luz. She began working in the kitchen, later became a caregiver, and eventually a teacher within our community. Her dedication has been essential not only for Marthita, but for many other children as well.
Doctors once said that Marthita would only live until the age of four, but at Pasitos de Luz, we believe her story still has many chapters yet to be written. Every day is a victory, and every achievement is a testament to her incredible resilience.
Stories like Marthita’s reflect the real impact Pasitos de Luz has on the lives of each child and their families. Behind every milestone, there is love, commitment, and a community that makes change possible.
Thank you for being part of this transformation.
Very soon, we will share more stories that are part of this incredible family.
